The Kolar District was renowned for its gold mining industry. The people of Kolar District rely on agriculture, dairy farming, and sericulture. The district is famously referred to as the land of “silk, milk, and gold”. Farmers in Kolar rely on borewell water for irrigation and drinking. Srinivasapur in Kolar District is known for its world-famous mangoes, which are exported to numerous countries across the globe. Kolar boasts the Agricultural Producers’ Marketing Committee, which is the second-largest in Asia and the largest in South India. It is also recognized as one of the largest suppliers of tomatoes in India.
The establishment of courts in Kolar dates back to the British era. The Magistrate Courts are housed in a heritage building constructed in 1867. Previously, the acting Magistrate Courts operated in tiled-roof buildings, and currently, they accommodate three courts: Principal Judge, Family Court, Kolar Second Additional Senior Civil Judge and JMFC, Kolar, and Second Additional Civil Judge and JMFC, Kolar. The Advocate Association of Kolar District is also located in the heritage building. The Principal Civil Judge and JMFC, Kolar, formerly known as the Munsiff Court/Magistrate Court (now Principal Civil Judge and JMFC, Court Kolar), has been operational since 1883. Similarly, the court in KGF has been functioning since 15 November 1903, as per Government Order No. FL 1181/2.
The Principal District and Sessions Court, Kolar, commenced operations on 1 October 1964, according to Government Order No. III.IV.V HD 99 GAD 64 dated 22 August 1964.
